Our First Visitor

On Thursday we welcomed our first visitor to our new apartment. My great aunt Susan came to stay with us for a night. She was in town for her granddaughter's birthday party at the American Girl Place. We helped her navigate her way in the big city and got her to and from the party on Friday.

While she was at the birthday party, Brian, Oliver and I went to the Nature Museum in Lincoln Park. It's a really nice, small museum that doesn't overwhelm you with too many exhibits. Oliver got up close and personal with a polar bear. It didn't seem to impress him much.

My favorite part of the museum was the butterfly house. It's a great big room full of plants, waterfalls, birds and lots and lots of butterflies. Oliver loved watching them all fly around.

Of course there were lots of things for Oliver to touch and explore. This dried grass really caught his attention.

Oliver was so good on the train ride to and from downtown. There were a lot of people for him to watch, and that kept him very busy. It's fun to see how most people smile and interact with him. He certainly loves the attention.

It's been one week since we moved back down to Evanston, and we are feeling pretty well moved in and adjusted. We've visited the grocery store and Target a couple of times and made a big trip to take care of vehicle registration and driver's licenses. We've had dinner with some friends and Oliver is sleeping better each night in his new room. Today we hung some of our familiar decorations on the walls and it's feeling more like home. Of course we miss our family, and we are looking forward to doing some Skyping with them soon.
