Last Sunday we set out for Decorah, IA, for a day of family fun. We met up with Grandma Sara and her sisters to go to a talk by one of our favorite authors - Jan Brett! As an added bonus - it was Grandma Sara's birthday!!
The boys did a great job sitting through the talk. Henry randomly repeated words during the talk that he heard Jan Brett say. "Rooster!" "Minneapolis!" "Markers!" We quietly shushed him more than a few times. Oliver was entranced as she demonstrated how she goes about drawing her illustrations. We each brought along our favorite books of hers and after the talk we had to wait in line quite a while to meet her and have her sign them for us. We passed the time reading, posing with Hedgie the Hedgehog, snacking on M&Ms, and catching up on family news.
When we finally met her I was a little starstruck. The boys chatted away with her as if they had known her for years.

After the event we celebrate Grandma's birthday with Mabe's Pizza and some yummy desserts. It was a great day, and we had great people to share it with!
