How Can It Be?

It's hard to believe, but Oliver is six months old today. This Momma is amazed at how fast this half of a year has flown by. Oliver is growing so quickly, and I find myself wanting to keep looking at pictures from when he was first born so that I don't forget what newborn Oliver was like. At his 6 month appointment today he weighed in at 17 lbs 9 oz, and he's 27 inches long. His weight is average for his age (53rd percentile), his height is slightly above average (72nd percentile), but his head circumference is nearly off of the charts (99th percentile!). So he has a big noggin, but when I look at him it doesn't seem that his head is overly large for the rest of his body. He's just a big guy overall.

Last week Oliver started eating 'real' food. Sweet potatoes were on the menu for him and he LOVED them. He was hooked from the first bite. Since then he has also tried butternut squash, and that was a success as well. Next up, green beans. We'll see how he takes to green veggies.

All of this new food has given him the energy to try all sorts of tricks. He is solidly sitting on his own and will bend and reach for toys and come back up to a sitting position. Toppling over still happens now and then, but he takes those tumbles in stride.

He even does push-ups! :-)

Christmas has brought a lot of presents, and to Oliver's delight, lots of noisy, scrunchy wrapping paper. He loves ripping it off of gifts and shaking it like crazy.

You can't have baby's first Christmas without dressing up for the occasion. Here he is with his cousin Breanna. He loves having her around. He watches every move she makes, and will be chasing her around in no time.

He still only has two bottom teeth in, but as you can see he is a drooler. We're just waiting for the next tooth to pop in any time now.

It's so fun to watch Oliver attempt to get some forward motion going. He'll get up on all fours and rock back and forth. He just needs to figure out how to move his hands forward. Once he has rocked a bit he usually ends up scooting backwards. He gets a little frustrated when he realizes his toys are getting further away rather than getting closer. With all of this movement it's definitely time for us to start thinking about baby-proofing!
