Tall Ships

Thursday Brian took the afternoon off and we took the train into Chicago to see the Tall Ships at Navy Pier.  It was an absolutely gorgeous afternoon with bright blue skies and a nice breeze off of the lake.

We were able to board some of the ships.  Oliver was fascinated with all of the ropes and wanted to grab onto every one as we walked through.  The sailing world is a world that Brian and I know nothing about, so it was interesting to hear a little bit about what exactly all of those ropes do. And I realized that I could never be a sailor.  Just walking on the barely bobbing docked ships made me a little queazy.

HMS Bounty

One of the ships there was a famous one.  The HMS Bounty has been used in several movies, including 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Mutiny on the Bounty'.  The line to board this ship was much longer than others, but since Ollie was napping in the stroller we decided to let him sleep while we all waited in line.  He woke up just as we were nearing the boarding plank, and it's a good thing he did.  We wouldn't want Captain Oliver to miss seeing this beautiful ship!

With Oliver we don't get down into Chicago as often as we did before, so seeing the Tall Ships gave us a good opportunity to go downtown and be reminded of all there is to see there. Life is busy these days but we're glad we had a chance to take advantage of some of what Chicago has to offer.
