Iowa in March

This past weekend my mom and her sisters held a baby shower for my cousin Kathy, so we traveled west to Iowa for that and to visit my parents again. It was a good time to visit too because Jen and Zach were there, as were Matt and Becky. It's a good thing Paul didn't make the trip over with us, because we were in danger of reaching the Too Much Family At One Time limit! (Just kidding - we missed you Paul!)

We drove over on Saturday morning, and on our way to the shower we drove through Clinton, home of Flava Flav's new fried chicken restaurant. It sits in a former Long John Silver's building, and sits next to a KFC. We have no information on how the restaurant is doing.

I dropped Amy off at the baby shower, and drove with Ollie and Zach over to Cedar Rapids to hang out with my dad. Both boys were great in the car. We played for a while until Matt and Becky arrived, and after dinner we headed to watch the Cedar Rapids Roughriders hockey game. It was a good game to watch, though Ollie's favorite parts were the horse mascot, the Chick-fil-A cow, and the popcorn. He did also get into cheering and clapping when a goal was scored.

We spent the next day relaxing with everyone, though Jen and Zach had to leave for home that morning. My dad took Matt and I on a short tour of some flood recovery work, and my mom took us all to Kohl's to do a little shopping, but otherwise we just hung out.

Monday morning we went out for breakfast due to plumbing trouble at my parents' house, and then we drove west to Des Moines for a short surprise visit with my grandparents while we were sort of in the area. We visited for a few hours and then had to take off for home.
