We have just returned from a weekend trip to Duluth to visit our friend Megan. We hadn't seen her since September, so it was really nice to spend some time with her again. We scoured an antique store for treasures (found a few), Megan introduced us to baked potato pizza, and we watched some of the Olympics. (We can't get NBC at our place, so we've been feeling Olympics-deprived.)
Friday night one of our favorite bands, Wilco, was playing in Duluth. Megan was more than happy to spend a date night with Oliver while Brian and I spent a date night with Wilco. It was our first real night out alone since Oliver was born. We had front row seats, and that was definitely a great experience. There was one drawback, though, to being in the front row. We aren't used to being out much past 8:00 these days, and the band played until 11:30. New parents on their first night out sometimes get the yawns, and I didn't want the band to see front-row yawners! I tried to be inconspicuous with the yawns, because we truly were having a great time.

Megan has a super sweet big yellow lab named Cheddar. I was a little nervous about how Oliver would take to her, as Cheddar is by far the biggest dog Ollie has ever met. He loved her! Cheddar helped keep Oliver's face clean with big doggie licks and Oliver never objected. He loved watching her. Cheddar was very good with Oliver, but she did have a little bit of a jealous streak. When Megan would play with Oliver Cheddar would stand right in between them to block Megan's view of Ollie. She was definitely saying, "He's cute and all, but I'm still here too!". 
In other news, Oliver is 8 months old today! He's learning new tricks all the time. He's now crawling and getting into anything and everything. When we move to Evanston (in less than 2 weeks!) we'll definitely have to set up a baby-proof apartment. He pulls himself up on things, and if he's feeling brave he'll stand alone for a few seconds. He's our happy, smiley guy. Happy 8 months, Oliver!
