Summer Fun

This summer got off to a rocky start for us.  In early June little Henry's appendix burst, and we spent about a week and a half in the hospital trying to get his infection cleared up. Looking at him now you'd never guess anything had happened, but that stinker of an appendix is still in there.  He'll have surgery at the end of August to remove it.  We are so thankful that he is doing well.

Our summer has definitely turned around since then.  Oliver had his 6th birthday party at a bowling alley with some good friends.  A couple of days later we got a chance to see President Obama when he was here in town to give a speech. Oliver loved being there, and as we left he said, "That was a good talk!".  Henry, on the other hand, was pretty overwhelmed by the crowd.  He and I stuck to the outskirts of the crowd but were still able to see and hear the speech.

The boys have gotten a lot of good use out of the slip and slide in the backyard.  Even though the water is cold, they can spend hours out there splashing around.

We put up a tent in the backyard for a couple of days and the boys had a camp out one night.  They slept super well and loved playing in there too.

This past week I got to share a fun piece of my childhood with the boys when we went to see kids'  musician Tom Pease at our library.  I remember seeing him quite a few times when I was younger.  He's just as fun and crazy now as he was then.  They boys love his silly songs.

Yesterday we took a short drive out into the countryside and picked blueberries.  This is one of my favorite summertime activities.  The boys love picking, and it's so fun to listen to them chatter while they pick.

Although summer may have gotten off to quite a different start than we expected, we are now finally finding our summer rhythm and enjoying this time we all have together.  The days are flying by, and soon school will again be upon us.  But before then, there is more summer fun to be had...
