Yesterday we took a bus down into Copenhagen and saw a lot of sights. We started out with a trip to Nyhavn, a very colorful harbor area. We went with the intention of buying apples that come in from Fejø, one of Denmark's tiny islands. We got sidetracked before we got there by guards marching towards Amalienborg Palace for the changing of the guards ceremony. We decided to follow them as they marched in the street, blocking traffic and stopping for traffic lights. The ceremony was pretty short and without much fanfare. It's quite subdued compared to the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace in London. After a quick stop in the Marble Church we went to get our apples. (We are planning to make Gma Marie's apple dessert today.) When we finished at Nyhavn we wandered over to the Royal Library, which is a neat mix of old and new architecture. After wandering City Center for a little longer we hopped on a train towards Carlsberg Brewery. The photo of the elephant is from there. This weekend they are hosting the European Beer Festival (Ølfestival) with something like 2000 varieties of beer from all over Europe. Brian liked Föroya Bjór Classic from the Faroe Islands, and I enjoyed Sam'l Smith Organic Strawberry Beer from England. It was a huge event and overall very fun to watch the serious beer connoisseurs take notes on all the samples they tried.
We had a fun day and you can see more pictures on Picasa if you are interested. We measured our walk after we got home and we had walked a total of 7 miles. Today we are sticking closer to home and resting our tired bones.
