This weekend we were lucky enough to have my Grandpa and Grandma Merkey visit from Des Moines. They stopped over for a couple of days on their way to Norway, where they will take a fjord cruise.
They arrived a little jet-lagged on Thursday, so we took it easy that day and let them rest up. Friday I took them into Copenhagen, where they saw the Nyhavn harbor, Amalienborg palace, and the Marble Church. We also had lunch at Mormor's. After lunch, we took a canal boat tour to see more of the city, Grandpa and I climbed the spiral ramp to the top of the Round Tower, and we ended the day with a walk down the Strøget before heading back to our apartment.
On Saturday we took them to the Frilandsmuseet (Open-air Museum) to see homes and farm buildings from Denmark's earlier years. It was a beautiful day to be outside, and we were able to see a lot of nice places.
This morning we helped get them to the airport for their flight to Bergen, Norway, where their cruise leaves from tomorrow. It was a busy few days, but we still found some time each evening to play Scrabble with Grandma, and we were glad they could stop by to see us. Happy sailing, Grandma & Grandpa!
